Dear Friends,
It has been encouraging throughout the school over the past couple of weeks to see so many students deep in the learning cycle. Our classroom teachers at Yeronga State School make use of their teaching space as a learning aid. We call this ‘the third teacher’. The use of learning walls in classrooms are purposefully co-constructed with students to support self-regulated feedback. When students are able to take action for assessing their own progress against the assessment task requirements we know they are in the best place to take responsibility for their own next steps for improvement. Ask your child about their English learning wall (some classes call them bump it up wall).
I have had confirmation today that a contractor has been awarded for the construction of the new school fence. I will continue to keep our community updated as construction commences and any impact on day to day operations.
We have a couple of heritage listed mature trees on the school site that sadly will be removed in the near future. These trees have been assessed and are deemed unsafe for children to play under due to their inevitable and eventual falling.
I am on duty at the PICK UP and GO zone two afternoons a week. I am pleased with the cooperation of parents using the zone as it is designed. Students are to wait at the head of the line with cars loading and departing from the front of the queue. Please do not attempt to do a U Turn over the solid line on Park Rd. This is a highly dangerous section of the road at the brow of the hill and the pedestrian crossing. If your child has not arrived and you are at the front of the queue, please do a lap of the block and re-enter the queue.
Next term Chappy Jenny is taking leave. We wish Chappy all the best with her time away and look forward to her return in Term 3.
Sadly, we have had two incidents this week of parents speaking aggressively and disrespectfully to our staff as they go about their duty of care to students. Please find attached to this newsletter a copy of our Yeronga State School Parent and Community Code of Conduct. Aggressive or disrespectful behaviour on the school site may result in police attendance and/or restriction to the school site for a period of time. Click Here - Parent and Community Code of Conduct
Please enjoy the mid semester break with the family. I am very much looking forward to time away on Straddie with mine. Fingers crossed for great weather.
See you all back bright and fresh on Monday 17 April.

Parent Rep reminder
The purpose of the Parent Rep role is to foster and support parent connection and engagement at Yeronga State School.
Parent Representatives are in integral part of our school community who:
- Support home-school relationship by liaising between the teachers and parents of their nominated class
- Provide encouragement to other parents in the class to participate in classroom and community volunteering opportunities
- Welcome new families by making themselves known to new parents and help them transition into the Yeronga State School Community.
- Organise social gatherings such as coffee mornings, family park outings or parent evenings to help build friendship networks within the community

Bravehearts

Last Tuesday, the Prep and Year 1 children had a visit from the Bravehearts program team. During this visit, children learned about protective behaviours and three rules to keep them safe:
1. We all have the right to feel safe with people
2. It's OK to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure
3. Nothing is so yucky you can't tell someone about it
Remember, if you ever feel unsafe or unsure about something run and tell someone you can trust.

Parent Cafe
The first term is nearly over, and there is just one more chance to catch up with me at Parent Café next Tuesday morning. Get a free drink and sweet from the coffee cart set up under the trees down in the junior school and have a chat with me or other parents.
Perspective Changes Things
Perspective changes the way we see and experience the world around us. It makes us consider different views, attitudes, and beliefs. It helps us to develop empathy, tolerance, and compassion for others, deepening our connections and reducing conflict. Importantly, it also benefits us when we are going through challenging times, and is a great self-care tool to use to direct our thoughts and actions.
So if you are struggling, take a step back and look wide, or look at your difficulties through the viewpoint of another person. It can shift your view, helping to realise that maybe your problems aren’t as big, all-encompassing or long-lasting as it might feel. When you aren’t so deep in the struggle, you may be able to see alternative solutions or answers, or gain the perspective that the issues will be resolved with time or through some assistance from a professional, or even a friend or your community. Let those changed thoughts direct your speech and actions. Speak positively to encourage your family and yourself, providing lift to your home and life.
Happy Easter
I hope you enjoy the coming holidays, and have time to create some new memories with your family. Looking back on my own childhood, holidays were some of the most memorable occasions, but not just those times we travelled. The most precious moments I remember were the ones where we spent time together as a family over simple pleasures. Have fun making those memorable moments!
Blessings, Chappy Jenny

Queensland Symphony Orchestra Is Hosting a Big Free Outdoor Concert at Roma Street Parklands
Taking place at Roma Street Parklands, Queensland Symphony Orchestra's Symphony Under the Stars will enjoy its debut hour-long outing at 6:30pm on Saturday, March 25, in what's set to launch a yearly show.
Attendees will hear 'Fanfare for the Common Man' by Copland to begin, followed by Tower's 'Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman'. Also on the list Dvořák's 'Carnival Overture', Delius' 'Summer Evening', Dohnányi's 'Symphonic Minutes', Tchaikovsky's 'Capriccio Italien' and Glinka's 'Overture to Ruslan and Lyudmila'.
Given how popular last year's 75th-birthday show was, expect the maiden Symphony Under the Stars to prove the same. Although attendance is free, registration from 9am on Sunday, February 26 via the QSO website is recommended. Bringing picnic baskets is encouraged, too, and there'll be food options available onsite.
