Dear Families,
Welcome back to term 4. The final term of the year is always one filled with many community events and celebrations. I look forward to seeing many of you over the coming weeks.
Please note that this term is an 11 week term. The final and 11th week of term will be supervision of students only as per the Premiers announcement earlier this year. A program of activities will be shared with parents in Week 9.
We are currently engaging staff and students in the design of our 2025-2028 School Strategic Plan. The school strategic plan is the guiding document capturing the vision values and key strategies that will drive the school operational priorities over the next four years. All parents are invited to our community forum to be held on the 15th of October from 5-7pm (see flyer below). I will be facilitating the face-to-face forum and look forward to your input.
Have a wonderful long weekend,
Eunice

Staff Spot Light
Hello Yeronga State School!
My name is Jane, and I am thrilled to join you as your new Student Wellbeing Officer. Im so excited for term 4 and I can’t wait to meet everyone!
I grew up in Sawtell, NSW and moved to Brisbane when I was 18 to study Psychology. I loved learning about people so much that I decided to pursue a PhD in Developmental Psychology, which I’m nearly finished! In my free time, I love sewing, cooking, and spending time at the beach.
With a background in psychology and support work, I am deeply passionate about the mental health and wellbeing of young people. As the Wellbeing Officer, I will work closely with staff members to create a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the emotional, physical, social, and intellectual development of all our students. I’ll be at School on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so if you see me around, don’t hesitate to say hello!
Looking forward to a wonderful term together!
Warm regards,
Jane Minogue
Year 2 Museum of Brisbane Wrap-up
In order to support learning within the Year 2 History Inquiry, students engaged in the Brisbane Now and Then Program offered by Educators at the Museum of Brisbane. They explored artifacts from the past and took part in a tour of the Museum and City Hall with an Experienced Educator.
Together Sing
Together Sing is a culminating week-long event during Mental Health Week, in which schools and community groups across Australia and around the world sing a specifically composed song. Together Sing raises awareness of the value of singing together and the culminating events involve children singing a song together, experiencing these positive benefits.
Students at Yeronga SSS have discussed the importance of the role that group singing plays and the cognitive, social and emotional benefits of not only singing together but also of music education in their classroom music lessons during term 3 music lessons.
The Junior Choir has excitedly been leading this initiative at Yeronga SS and have been encouraging other students to be a part of the 150 000 singers that participate annually with groups from every state in Australia and also some overseas.
A Big shout out to both the Junior choir and the senior school students at assembly this morning who sang their hearts out and had a great time doing so. I look forward to another great sing at the junior assembly next week.

Yeronga State School (YSS) District Trial Selection (Years 4 to 6)
The representative pathway for school sport is for students aged 10 to 12 years. Yeronga is part of a very strong district which consists of 28 schools (Eastern Taipans District).
In most sports we are encouraged to send only 2 students from the school that demonstrate a very high level of ability. The majority of these teams are under 12 teams. A good guide for this is:
- A representative club player
- A top performer in your sport outside of school
- Playing in higher age groups
- Consistently demonstrating outstanding performances in interschool sport fixtures and training sessions in the highest division.
In order to be considered to attend a District Trial students should make themselves known to either (Mr Bateman or Mr Curness) at least 2 weeks prior to the trials.

#DemocracySausage - Election Day BBQ Stall 26 October
It is the countdown to delicious goodness from our YSS Tong Team. On Saturday 26th October, the school will be buzzing with excitement as the community attends to vote. This year, we will be surprising voters with a sausage sizzle. Funds raised will help the P & C to contribute to school events and improvements.
Why not pop on a BBQ apron and flip some snags? We need volunteers to cook, serve and sell. If you're coming to vote, come join us for a 2 hour volunteer spot and mingle with some other school families. Volunteering is a great way to make new friends.
