Dear Families,
Queensland Teachers Union Protected Industrial Action Day Wednesday 6 August
Please refer to my correspondence sent to all families on Wednesday 30 July morning. The email contains a letter from me with details advising of the upcoming Stop Work day on Wednesday 6 August.
Further advice will be sent to families from me on Tuesday morning Wednesday 5 August advising parents of drop off and pick up arrangements for children who are attending on the day. As communicated in my email, supervision of children attending school on the day will occur.
Stay and Play Afternoon
It was lovely to see so many families attending our open classroom/stay and play afternoon again. We aim to establish this as a routine opportunity for families to connect in Term 1 and Term 3 week 3.
BE BOLD BE KIND SPEAK UP
The national day of action against bullying culture in our communities and schools will take place over Bullying No Way Week 11th-15th of August.
If you are interested in what the Australian Government is doing through the Anti Bullying Rapid Review and to have your say please follow this link https://www.education.gov.au/antibullying-rapid-review
All children in our school need a safe person they trust to confide in. This will be a point of action for our school in the coming week.
Kindest regards,
Eunice Webb
Principal
100 Days of Prep
Last Friday we celebrated 100 days of learning, laughter, growth, and fun in Prep! From reading our first words, making new friends, and building classroom confidence — our Preppies have come so far. We’re so proud of everything they’ve achieved in their first 100 days of school.

Year 4 Camp Goodenough
Congratulations to the year 4 campers, who returned on Wednesday after an adventurous time at Camp Goodenough! The teachers would love to congatulate all students in showing persistance and resiliance when trying new activities.

Deadly Doors
Did you get a chance to check out our Deadly Doors after NAIDOC week assembly? If not, there is now a display near 3F and you can see them all!
Teachers and students at Yeronga were given the opportunity to take part in our Deadly Door Walk during NAIDOC week. The inspiration came from 4L who were making their own Yuendamu Doors.
The Yuendamu Doors are a powerful expression of First Nations culture, using art to share ancestral stories, pass on knowledge, and highlight the importance of place, language, and law. This project shows how tradition can live on in everyday spaces—like our schools.
Australian Primary Principals Day
Today our Principal and Deputy Principals proudly represented our school at a Reading Leadership Day—an inspiring professional learning event dedicated to advancing literacy outcomes of children across Australian primary schools. Coinciding with Australian Primary Principals Day, the occasion highlighted the vital role school leaders play in shaping students’ educational journeys. Their participation reflects our school’s ongoing commitment to fostering a strong reading culture and ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive through literacy.
Celebrating Student Progress and Learning
At our school, we recognise and celebrate the effort, growth, and achievements of all our learners. Each step forward, whether big or smal, is a testament to our students’ resilience, curiosity, and dedication to learning.
A special congratulations this week goes to William, who has been recognised by Mrs Schirmer for making tremendous progress this term. Well done, William! We are proud of your hard work and commitment.
Keep up the great effort, everyone!
Book Week Is Coming!
We are looking forward to an exciting book week, with author visits, Book Parade and many other exciting events. One event we will be holding is a bring a book, and take a book with a gold coin donation to support ?– Fundraising for Indigenous Literacy ?
This year, Yeronga State School is proud to support Reading Out of Poverty (ROOP) during Book Week 2025, celebrating the joy of reading while helping close the literacy gap for Indigenous children in remote communities. Funds raised will help bring the joy of reading to Indigenous children in communities like Yarrabah, Far North Queensland, where access to early literacy resources remains limited.
ROOP is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing books and literacy support to children aged 0–6 years who are experiencing disadvantage. This year’s Book Week Fundraiser will directly support programs that give Indigenous children in remote areas the tools they need to thrive through reading.
Please help your child to dig through their book shelves to swap a book at the “Bring a book and take a book.
New Resources in the library from the Amazon Wishlist
Thank you for supporting Yeronga State School library. Here is a sample of the books that we have received from families. We are very grateful, and our students are very excited to get these books into circulation.
There have been some question which you may like to know the response to. Firstly, Amazon is the only stockist that gives us the opportunity to create and publish a wish list. The books do not have to be purchased from Amazon though.
We are delighted to get multiple copies for the school, as this also helps us build up our Classroom Reading Set resources, as well. If we receive more than a set of 8 of the same book we can create a set of eight books for the Classroom Reading Sets and put them on the library shelves. These then become readers that teachers can use for instructional reading. Our students in the upper school often get to select their own readers and enjoy reading contemporary books. Our students also like to create their own Book Clubs where a group of students borrow and read the same book and then discuss the book during lunch time.
We will keep our wish list open and will update it regularly by removing books we no longer need or adding to it. Our Head of Curriculum will also be adding books that can be used as curriculum reading.

Thank you again for your on going support.

Yeronga State School (YSS) District Trial Selection (Years 4 to 6)
The representative pathway for school sport is for students aged 10 to 12 years (according to year of birth not birth date). Yeronga is part of a very strong district which consists of 28 schools (Eastern Taipans District).
In most sports we are encouraged to send only 2 students from the school that demonstrate a very high level of ability. The majority of these teams are under 12 teams. A good guide for this is:
- A representative club player
- A top performer in your sport outside of school
- Playing in higher age groups
- Consistently demonstrating outstanding performances in interschool sport fixtures and training sessions in the highest division.
In order to be considered to attend a District Trial students should make themselves known to either (Mr Bateman or Mr Curness) at least 2 weeks prior to the trials.
Important Sporting Dates Term 2 & 3, 2025
15 August 2025 – Gala Day 1
29 August 2025 – Gala Day 2
2 – 3 September 2025 – Met West Regional Athletics

Dear parents, guardians and carers
Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
Yeronga State School is committed to fostering an inclusive school environment that is supportive, respectful, compatible with human rights and provides all students with opportunities to engage in quality learning. Inclusive education at our school means that students from all backgrounds, of all identities and all abilities are able to access and participate in education that offers opportunities for success. As a school we continue to review our whole school resources both human and physical to enable students to achieve their potential and achieve a successful pathway regardless of any barrier.
At Yeronga State School we offer all students the right to education with a range of differentiated supports tailored to suit the individual student and their needs.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.dese.gov.au/about-us/resources/department-education-skills-and-employment-complete-privacy-policy-0).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly.
Kind regards,
Anthea Grant

Father’s Day Stall - Let’s Make It Magical!
Our much-loved Father’s Day Stall is back on Thursday 4 September, and we need your help to make it another joyful day filled with smiles, surprises, and sweet moments for our kids!
For those new to Yeronga SS, the Father’s Day Stall is a cherished school tradition where students visit a special pop-up stall during class time to choose a gift for someone special - dad, grandpa, uncle, stepdad or another loved one in their life. It's all about thoughtful giving, independence, and big excitement!
Here’s how you can help:
Donate a gift! We’re looking for fun, thoughtful, quirky or heartfelt gifts (valued at $5 or under). Some great ideas:
•Socks, mugs, keyrings
•Chocolates or snacks
•Tools, car wash gear, BBQ items
•Novelty items or “dad jokes” books
•Coffee sachets or mini pamper products
Next time you're at the supermarket, why not pop an extra chockie or two in the trolley for the stall? Every little bit helps!
Donate funds via Flexischools
Too busy to shop? No worries – you can donate directly through Flexischools and we’ll purchase gifts on your behalf.
Volunteer your time
Help us wrap gifts, sort donations, or run the stall on the day. It’s a beautiful way to be part of the fun!
Reminder: Students will need to bring $3 cash on the day to purchase a gift.
Special Note for Year 6 Families: As our Year 6 students will be away at camp on stall day, they’ll still get to take part in the fun! Please ensure they hand their $3 donation to their teacher by Thursday 28 August. When they return from camp, they’ll be given a lucky Father’s Day gift to take home and surprise someone special.
Let’s make this another unforgettable event for the kids - thanks so much for your support, big or small.

There’s a place for you.
Why join?
•Be the first to hear about upcoming events and how to help
•Get matched to jobs that suit your time and skills (no pressure)
•Meet great people and show your kids what community spirit looks like
Got a skill, trade or small business?
If you or a family member is a tradie, creative, organiser, or local business owner — let us know!
Sometimes we need quotes, help with grant applications, or support to deliver funded projects.
Being on our radar helps us plan better and support local where we can.
Time short? That’s okay too.
If life’s too busy to volunteer right now but you’d still love to support what we do, there’s also an option to make a donation via the form.
