How well do you cope when life throws you a curveball? Good routines, practices and habits will help you to be stronger and more resilient, however there will still be some unexpected difficulties that arise from time to time that could include unemployment, relationship breakdown, health battles, financial troubles, parenting issues, managing ageing parents, etcetera. For me, I’ve recently had to manage a health challenge that has temporarily knocked me out, and my family has had to find ways to cope for the short term.
My recovery is going well because of great medical intervention but also because of some awesome people in my life that have stepped up and helped with offers of support, meals, and visits. I know how fortunate that I am to have such a great circle of friendship and support, although this has happened through intentionally building relationships with family and friends. I have been a good friend and stepped up to help when my friends have needed support and connection.
Beyond Blue suggest that, “Connections matter. Strong ties with family, friends and the community provide us with happiness, security, support and a sense of purpose. Being connected to others is important for our mental and physical wellbeing”. Building connections and friendships are an important part of life combating loneliness, poor health and social isolation. It is a healthy way to do life, not just for the fun of it, but also to provide a support network when life throws a curveball your way. And btw, I will be much better soon.
