Deputy Principals' Report

eSafety Kids – people are being mean to others online

At times, we hear from our students that they see some teasing online using group chats or social media.  Below, you’ll find some handy hints on what to look out for, and how to respond.  You can also find out more on the e-safety website: https://www.esafety.gov.au/kids/I-want-help-with/people-are-being-mean-to-others-online

What to look out for

  • mean messages, comments or images
  • kids who are being left out online
  • seeing lies about someone online
  • other kids creating fake online profiles
  • friends who delete their app or game accounts
  • friends who are checking their phones more often than they used to

What to do

  1. Make sure cyberbullying stops with you— don’t forward or share any mean messages, posts or images.
  2. Reach out to the person being bullied— let them know you care about them.
  3. Try not to send mean messages back— this could make things worse.
  4. Speak to an adult you can trust- they can give you help and support.

Student Leadership nomination processes 2023

A big congratulations to all the year 5 students who have nominated for 2023 student leadership positions.  50 students were brave, and put themselves forward for a variety of positions. We are almost at the end of this process with the successful candidates being announced to the year 5’s on Friday. We are encouraged by how our future leaders have responded to this process, sharing the wins and losses with each other, and encouraging each other along the way.   We know that we have some fantastic students who are ready to step up and lead our great school in 2023.

Next weeks year 5 camp will be the first step along the leadership journey, where students will participate in a variety of challenges, designed to explore team work and leadership skills.  We’re excited for things to come!
