Music News
Thank you, parents, guardians and students, for all the wonderful, warm wishes that you have sent me over the last few weeks. I feel very blessed that have been a part of the Yeronga community over the last five years and I will miss you all dearly.
SINGFEST
During my last week, I was fortunate enough to take 18 of our Chamber Choir students to the Old Musuem for Singfest. Singfest is an annual choral music event (that is back for the first time since 2019) for primary and secondary state school students. It features students from across the metropolitan region coming together to learn choral repertoire at school, then to participate in a one-day workshop with a guest conductor and accompanist. Students then present the works as a massed choir at the conclusion of each day’s workshop. The four main songs that the students performed were:
- Icarus by Paul Jarman
- Do I Hear You Gossiping? By Greg Gilpin
- Gravity by Brendan O’Mahoney and Ruth McCall
- Baltic by Katherine Ruhle
I think that the families of our 18 performers agree with me that the massed choir concert at the end of the day sounded divine and our singers should be very proud of their efforts.
STATE HONOURS ENSEMBLE PROGRAM (SHEP)
Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University’s State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) is an educational program for music students that helps extend and encourage their pursuit of musical excellence.
