PREP 2022 INTERVIEWS

Over the last two weeks we have been engaging in our Prep 2023 interviews.  It has been lovely to meet and welcome younger siblings as well as new families to our wonderful school.  The interview/ discussion give the school valuable information about new children to the school.  This term we will complete all interviews and the embark on our Kindy/ Early Educator visits.  We very much look forward to seeing the new children in their current setting.

NETWORK DAY AT YERONGA STATE SCHOOL

Today we welcomed 66 visiting teachers and our regional director to share our learning in the conceptual curriculum space.  We had visiting teachers from Amberley District SS, Graceville SS, Bardon SS, Indooroopilly SS, Fig Tree Pocket SS, Mayfield SS, Nundah SS, Oakleigh SS, Ashgrove SS and Happy Tots on Keats at Moorooka. It was a morning filled with teachers and our children showcasing their learning across the school in the big concept of Sustainability. We are so proud of our children, teachers and also our HOD inquiry teacher Clare Triggell who leads us in identifying the big concepts and links to the Australian Curriculum everyday.

EYES OPEN SOCIAL MEDIA WORKSHOP WRAP UP

Thank you to those who could make the Eyes Open Social Media workshop series held earlier this term. The workshop series began with a student focussed workshop for students in years 5 and 6, followed by a parent workshop, then a student and parent workshop where we delved into the settings on our devices to implement parental controls to keep our children safe online.  It was great to see so many families come along and Tricia, our presenter was really encouraged with the turn out!

Content explored in these workshops include:

  • Screen time for children and family agreements
  • Social media platforms – how to set these up safely with your children
  • Keeping your information safe online
  • Safety Risks online
  • Cyber Bullying
  • Parent Controls

The image below is a summary of the parental controls available on your devices to support online safety.

OUTDOOR PLAY LEGACY COMMITTEE FUNDRAISER

As you may already know the grade Sixers of Yeronga State School have been split into four different committees which are all based around improving our school in different ways.

Our committee is The Outdoor Play Committee.  This year our legacy focus will be to raise funds to upgrade our tennis/netball/basketball courts.

We are hosting a free dress day on Friday September 9th.  There is a gold coin donation.

The theme for this free dress day is to come as your idol – this does not have to be a sportsperson!!

Thank you for supporting the Outdoor Play Committee,

From, year 6.
