Easter Raffle - tickets coming home Friday and call for prize donations
Our wonderful P&C volunteers are keen to run the annual Easter fundraiser for our community this year. With Covid disruptions and the recent unfortunate flooding events, the promotion of the Easter raffle has been delayed.
Flyers and raffle tickets will be sent home this Friday, 11 March. Please sell these to family and friend - an absolute bargain at 50 cents/ticket. Please bring put all raffle ticket proceeds, and sold and unsold tickets, in the P&C payment box in the year 1 building or the Library.
All families are invited to please bring in donations of Easter items (eggs, chocolates, Easter-themed goodies or anything you would enjoy winning) over the coming 2 weeks to make up the prizes for the raffle. The more donations, the more prizes on offer! Our amazing parent volunteers will make up the prize hampers and lots of lucky winners drawn prior to the end of term in time for Easter celebrations.
Please see the Easter raffle flyer for more information and look out for the raffle tickets in your children's bags. Thank you to the grade 6 students who will collect the donations from classrooms to be stored in the library so that the chocolate treats do not melt. Thank you to Debbie Cowie for your ongoing support and allowing the P&C to access your limited space in the library.
If you would like to help in any way with bundling up donations and making up hampers, please get in touch by emailing operations@yerongasspandc.org.au
Senior Cross Country Sno Cones - 14 March - Seeking volunteers
With the Senior Cross country going ahead this coming Monday, 14 March, we are seeking volunteers to help bring smiles to many faces while making delicious sno cones. Crushing ice and pouring syrup is an easy way to help out…and it’s only for a few hours.
To offer your help please contact our parent coordinator Sarah Rochford via email s.rochford@hotmail.com. For more information about the snow cones stall you're also welcome to email operations@yerongasspandc.org.au.
Volunteers are needed from 8:30am to help with set up, and from 9:00-11:30am to make sno cones. You'll also be able to watch your child in their event. Children are asked to bring in $2 each for their sno cones - a rewarding treat after their run!
Community Support during 2022 Floods
We are so lucky to have such an amazing community both within our school and also surrounding us external to our school. We would like to thank so many who have helped in so many ways. The list is by no means exhaustive and apologies if anyone has been missed. We are truly a village:
- Yeronga Community Plus Centre – Melinda and the team have been working closely with our school P&C in providing sandwiches and snack donations for our school lunch program. The team there have also been an amazing support of families affected by the recent floods. If you find yourself unaffected by the floods and are looking to help to make meals or deliveries, please head over to the community centre and your assistance will be gladly accepted. There are many services based out of the community centre if you have been affected by the floods and need additional support.
- Bunnings Rocklea - despite being affected by the floods themselves, Bunnings Rocklea Events Coordinator Rhiannon Howard has advised that Bunnings head office has donated $500 towards items for our school community affected by the floods. We have a couple great key ideas on what this could be used for to benefit many so watch this space
- Woolworths Moorooka – the management team at Moorooka (Lance and Jamie) have also gone above and beyond in contributing a $500 store credit to the P&C to ensure essential items for the breakfast program, lunch program and general wellbeing can be obtained for our school children.
- The Buy Nothing/Give for Nothing Annerley and Fairfield Facebook group members have been outstanding contributors for pantry items towards the school lunch program also. The pantry items will provide some longer term ingredients to make muffins in the Tuckshop and to continue with the breakfast program if needed.
- Desley Griffiths who many of you know from her community work in the Moorooka area through the Brisbane Vintage and Collectables Op Shop – was amazing in getting us that first donation to ensure the breakfast club was well resourced the first day it was needed. At the time there wasn't much on shop shelves, but Desley's 'little elves' somehow found everything needed and all was dropped at our doorstep.
- The school community who, without being asked, just dropped off donations of fruit, milk and muffins…just to help out. We thank you.
- The P&C also made an out of meeting executive decision to approve up to $500 in the Tuckshop and $500 in the Uniform Shop to be available to fund meals or uniforms where no donations can be sourced. This has provided a great safety blanket for our teams to support families directly when they come in. There are still funds available within each service to support families who need it.
Uniform Shop - Thank you and 150th bags
Thank you for the generous donations of uniforms we have been receiving. Since our initial call out for items, we have been very fortunate that between Chappy Jenny's donations, uniform shop supplies, and families donating their unused items, we have been able to help many families affected by the floods. These supplies were also amazingly helpful in the return to school period.
A quick little note to advise that the uniform shop is supporting the 150th memorabilia by selling the commemorative bags as school library bags. We will not be purchasing nylon bags while we continue to support our reusable items.
2022 P&C membership
All 2021 P&C memberships will lapse at the AGM. Please take a moment (less than a minute, we promise!) to sign up as a P&C member for 2022 via our online membership form: www.surveymonkey.com/r/2022YSSPandCMembership.
Your membership is a great support to the school through the P&C, and is the best way to ensure you receive our P&C news and communications throughout the year. It also gives you the power to vote at our AGM and general monthly meetings. While we encourage all members to attend meetings if they can, there is absolutely no obligation as we understand how busy life is with children. Your membership will help us with grant applications and allows us to keep you updated with copies of monthly minutes (a key source of news and information for our community).
