Principal's Report

Eunice Webb.jpg

Dear Families,

It was wonderful to be able to join parents for the start of the Trivia night on Saturday. It is a reminder of how much connectedness is important to a strong and vibrant school community. Discussions are underway to change assembly times and format for 2022 going forward to a Friday morning at 9.00am. The intention is greater convenience for parents to attend assembly and participate more in the day to day life of the school. The return of class items to assembly and a parent café are all on the agenda at present. Let us all look forward to a 2022 where we can enjoy once again many school community events.

With three weeks to go, what are the vital communications with the school that need to occur as we head into the close of the 2021 school year. Please consider;

-updating any changes to student contact, medication and emergency details

-any professional therapist/practitioner reports regarding your child

-finalising accounts

-communicating if your child will not be present for the first day of school 2022

2022 School Captain election process is underway. It has been a privilege to engage with the students and learn of their aspirations and what is important to them. Common themes have been climate action, sustainability, reasons to connect and supporting vulnerable peers.

The teachers and leadership team look forward to announcing the School Captains for 2022 over the next week.

Recently, Metropolitan Regional Director Dr. Liam Smith shared the Our World Our Say Report – Australia’s largest ever consultation of young people on climate change and disaster risk. The survey was completed by 1,447 young Australians between the ages of 10 and 24. The survey was co-designed by young people and organisations working with young people in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. It included 27 questions on climate change, natural hazards and disaster risk, with questions designed to identify children and young people’s priorities for action by decision makers. Bushfires, floods, and severe weather events have had devastating impacts on Australian communities in recent history. Climate change is making these hazardous events more frequent and severe. Young people have an important role to play in raising awareness of the ongoing risk of disaster and working to build safer, stronger communities. Our own students are communicating similar concerns and a desire to take action. Legacy programs such as the YSS Green Team supported by parent Nicole Deaton have built a culture of awareness and stewardship over many years. Nicole will be working with the Year 4 students in the coming weeks to raise awareness of the leadership responsibilities as they transition to Year 5. Please support our students who are really leading the way by taking action in reducing the waste that comes to school.

We have been advised that the school Administration, First Aid and Staffroom will not be open and operational ready until after the start of 2022. The first floor (classrooms and Curiosity Centre) will continue to be under construction during Term 1 2022 and the surrounding access still a worksite. It is still anticipated that classrooms will be moving into the building over the Easter 2022 break in readiness for Term 2.

Class Teachers for 2022 are being finalised at present. Parents were invited to email Deputy Principal Tracy Freeman of any additional considerations for placement of their child into classes for 2022. The window has now closed and classes are being formed at present. 2022 Classes will be communicated to families via email on Wednesday January 19 at 5pm. A notification of the email will also be sent via Schoolzine.

School Reports will be emailed to parents on Wednesday 7 December. Please look out for this important correspondence. Many other important school events are taking place over the next few weeks. Please take note of the events that are relevant to your student.
