Sports Report & Gala Day Sport
Junior A Soccer Boys (Gala Day Report)
Last Friday the Junior A Soccer Team travelled to Stretton State College to play three games against the Algester, Sunnybank Hills and Stretton. All three of these schools have much larger populations than Yeronga but this did not phase the team.
After two comprehensive wins early in the day, the Gala Day Championship came down to the final match. Two undefeated teams playing off in the final round. We had watched the Sunnybank Hills team throughout the day and knew they would be a strong opposition. After a very fast opening 10 minutes Team Yeronga started finding the back of the net. By half time the score was 3 -0 to Yeronga. To Sunnybank Hills credit they came out extremely hard at the start of the second half. Again, after repelling several attacks Team Yeronga scored two more goals to seal the title.
Congratulations to all the boys on playing entertaining and smart football. Everyone played their role and this showed in a great team performance. The Team will now move into a knock out style competition as the representative of the Sunnybank Gala Day group.
TeeBall
The final Tee Ball gala day saw Yeronga 1 come away with 3rd place. With 12 teams in the competition, this was a great result.
Both Tee Ball teams played well, showing much improvement in running between bases and fielding techniques. We had some strong hitters with Helena coming away with a good home run.
Unfortunately, Team 2 weren’t able to come away with a win on the day after playing some experienced teams with some sneaky fielding strategies. The girls should be commended on their team spirit, support of one another and improving level of skill on the field. All games were close and some excellent batting and running saw us get home 25 times across the day.
Team 1 made it home 34 times across the day and won 2 out of their 4 games. The girls were communicating well when fielding and displayed some clever team work and strategies to get many runners out.
Thank you to parent helper Sarah Cordingly for sharing her expertise and enthusiasm with the girls.

Senior (Years 3-6) Athletics Carnival Format Change
Due to the growth experienced by the school over the last few years we have changed the carnival format to include as many students in the competition as possible and provide a representative pathway. It will now be a two day carnival comprised of a Championship Day ( Field Events & 800m) made up of the top 3 competitors from each house, turning 9 to 12 this year, selected through the athletics trials, and a Race Day (100m, 200m & Relays) for all to participate in. The rough timetables for both are presented below.
Also very importantly the 1500m will be held on Friday 11/06/2021 from 8am. Please peruse the timetable below and have students competing at the top oval 20 minutes before the commencement time for their event. The children involved have been informed.

Rebel Sport Community Givebacks
Just a quick note to publicise our involvement with this scheme and how it works. For some time now Yeronga State School has been part of the above mentioned scheme. The scheme gives the school credit for purchases of equipment at Rebel as anyone who purchases equipment nominates Yeronga State School as the recipient of Community Kickbacks. I have purchased cricket equipment, Footballs and Netballs with this credit. It is an easy way to contribute resources to our school especially if you enjoy spending time and money in sports stores like myself. Thanks to all of those who purchased at Rebel over the break. We have a very useful amount for equipment.
