Strategies to Help…
Are you struggling with life and all the challenges and difficulties that come your way? While we can’t stop those difficult times from coming, we can implement strategies to help us through them, and even to build our emotional resilience and improve our mental health. A recent “Question of the Week” around school is an example of a strategy that could be helpful… “What are you most thankful for in your life?” Having gratitude has been proven to help you to be more optimistic and feel better about life. It helps you to appreciate what you already have and to feel satisfied.
In my year 4 “Friends” lessons each week, I begin the class by asking the students to write down their happy thought for the week. It’s about finding something simple that has brought them joy and happiness, realising that they don’t have to wait for the grand and momentous occasions to feel happy. It’s about learning that even if it has been a tough week or not everything is going so smoothly, there are still good things in our lives, and we can find happiness in the simple joys of life. At the beginning of the program the students generally struggled to come up with their happy thought. Now that we are eight weeks in, they do this simple exercise quite quickly and have found it a rewarding moment.
So do you need to be proactive to help you a tough time? Of course, please seek professional help if needed, or even check in with me if I can help. But also consider… What are you most thankful for in your life? And what are the simple pleasures in your week that bring you joy?
