Principal's Report

Dear Families

p1.png

Welcome to Term 2 at Yeronga State School. A term of exciting academic and socialand emotional progress for our students. Please be sure to read the inserts by our teaching and learning team in this newsletter. I was delighted to host our Regional Director and Assistant Regional Director on Wednesday. Yeronga State School is well known in the region for its excellent curriculum and inquiry approach to engaging students as 21st century learners and citizens whilst developing outstanding literacy, numeracy, thinking and social and emotional skills. The feedback was excellent.

It was with great pride I join our students, staff and families to commemorate ANZAC Day at school on Friday 23 and Sunday 25. This is the most formal of occasions on our school calendar and one I am always so humbled by. I could not feel more proud to accompany our respectful and reflective young people as we pay our respects to all those who have and continue to serve with their lives in the armed services. Lest we forget.

You may have seen some of the concept images for the new Administration and Teaching and Learning block shared via the PandC and MP Mark Bailey’s Facebook pages last week. I am excited to share information once it is finalised so that you can join in the transformation journey. It is anticipated that Phase 1 (lower level) will be completed by the end of the school year. Given the proximity of the building to the walkways and school site, there will be changes to the way we have become accustomed to moving about the school site. You will start to see fencing going up as of next week. Please take the time to read the details in this newsletter as there will be important changes impacting on the YOSHC pick up and drop off areas. The STOP DROP and GO should not be impacted, however, it is always a safer option to park and walk than use the 2 Minute Zone simply due to the high volume of cars and children in such close proximity. We can never be too vigilant!

Last term each student should have received an invitation to submit an artwork to the 150th Principal’s Art Archive- Children of Yeronga State School One me, one world. The visual arts are a powerful tool for documenting and foregrounding the ideas, values and voice of children in society. In recognition of the many young artists who have had their early artistic practice nurtured and celebrated over the past 150 years and in the years to come, I have launched the Principal’s Visual Art Archive. This archive will be a collection of visual art produced by children of Yeronga State School in this 150th year, to be held in trust for future generations to view, ponder and marvel. All students enrolled at the school in 2021 are encouraged to contribute. All art and completed forms to be submitted to the Principal via the school administration office by 1 May 2021. Please see documents attached to this newsletter with entry information.

I look forward to seeing you at many of our upcoming community events and thank you for your ongoing support as we together, continue to make Yeronga State School a great school!

Have a great week,

Eunice Webb
