P&C Report

P&C AGM: Tuesday, 16 February, 2021

The YSS P&C Executive team invites all parents, carers, staff and members of our school community to the 2021 P&C AGM on Tuesday, 16 February, at 6:00pm, in the school Resource Centre (library). At the AGM we will review and celebrate our community's achievements for the crazy year that was 2020, vote in the Executive team for 2021, and outline key areas of activity for the coming year.

For information on P&C Executive and other committee positions see the 'P&C Committee roles' page on the P&C website. Please email us at yerongasspandc@gmail.com if you are interested in taking on a more active role in the P&C but would like more information about available roles and responsibilities.

All nominations for executive positions should be received in writing prior to the AGM, via the P&C Executive Officer Nomination Form - please email your completed form to yerongasspandc@gmail.com.

The 2021 AGM will be followed by our first general meeting of the year. P&C meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month (except December, January, and during school holidays) at 7:00pm in the school Resource Centre (library). Meeting documentation is available on our AGM webpage: www.yerongasspandc.org.au/index.php/agm/.

2021 P&C membership

All 2019/20 P&C memberships will lapse at the AGM. Please take a moment (less than a minute, we promise!) to sign up as a P&C member for 2021 via our online membership form: www.surveymonkey.com/r/ysspandc2021membership.

Your membership is a great support to the school through the P&C, and is the best way to ensure you receive our P&C news and communications throughout the year. It also gives you the power to vote at our AGM and general monthly meetings. While we encourage all members to attend meetings if they can, there is absolutely no obligation as we understand how busy life is with children. Your membership will help us with grant applications and allows us to keep you updated with copies of monthly minutes (a key source of news and information for our community).

150th CELEBRATIONS

Commemorative Tiles for the 150th Wall

Here is your chance to  have your child or family memorialised on the school’s 150th Anniversary wall with a customised tile adding to a colourful tapestry that is representative of the Yeronga State School community.

You are invited to draw, paint, create or use an image that is reflective of you, your family or your time at the school.

Each tile is 15cm x 15cm and costs $39.95 per tile.

Look out for order forms in your child’s bag, or if you would like to share the opportunity with a past Yeronga Student or Staff member, you can purchase online at https://yss150shop.square.site/  and a template with your order details will be emailed to you.

Please note: Cut off date to receive artwork is Friday 5th March and estimated delivery of tiles should be around the middle of May.

FETE 2021

2021 = 150th birthday for our school and FETE!

150 Years Old… Happy birthday YSS!!!  Having launched the 150th celebrations with a wonderful foundation assembly and commemorative tree planting on Friday, 5 February, there are plenty of opportunities planned to honour the school's sesquicentennial anniversary, including the FETE!!

Given the complexities of 2020, our aim for the Fete above all else, is to celebrate, have fun and bring our school community closer together (respecting Covid safe plans, of course). If we can raise some funds for the school at the same time, that will be a wonderful bonus that will benefit the school community through improved resources and facilities.

The 2021 Fete is taking shape and it's looking exciting! Mark Saturday, 22 May in your calendars and get set for some busy fun as we band together to create a great day out for the whole family. There will be a lot of activity and communication in the lead up to the big day.

To keep you updated and informed, stay on top of it all by liking our Fete Facebook page (www.facebook.com/yerongastateschoolfete) and keep an eye on your inbox for messages from your parent rep and the fete newsletter. There will be plenty of opportunities to help out, but if you are feeling like you want to get involved, feel free to reach out, yssfete@gmail.com.

For some inspiration and insights into the fun and colour of our last Fete in 2019, head to our Fete page on the P&C website: www.yerongasspandc.org.au/index.php/fete/.

Seeking stall coordinators

We are on the look out for some very cool people who can take the helm of one of the school-run stalls. Can you help? (Maybe buddy up with another parent and work as a team?). Stall leaders will need to:

  • monitor and manage volunteer sign ups
  • liaise with Fete committee for purchase or hire of supplies and equipment for their stall
  • coordinate the set up and running of the stall on the day
  • report feedback about the stall after the fete

The good news is, there are instructions for each stall and protocols set up from previous fetes, so there is no need to reinvent the wheel (unless you want to, then go for gold!).

SIGN UP HERE:https://signup.com/go/LYharPR.

If you have a special skill set and a spare hour or two for a good cause, we would love your help!

  • Photographers
  • Graphic Designers
  • Social Media Moguls
  • Set up / Pack Down
  • Transit help (utes + brawn)
  • Sparkies
  • Creatives (Art / Displays)
  • MC's / Announcers
  • Performers

If you haven't already done so fill out the P&C just one thing survey and share some love! www.surveymonkey.com/r/yss2021justonething (click through to the fete section, tick/write how you'd like to help, add your details at the end and 'submit', easy peasy :-) ).

FETE DONATIONS

There are a few ways you can donate to help the fete raise funds for the school.

Fete levy

Gone are the days of shopping for contributions of soft drink and chocolates, hoping they will make it to the classroom without melting or being consumed. An optional fete levy of $10 per student will help the fete committee purchase some of the items required for the fete.

Look out on Flexischools for 'Fete items' that can be added to your cart and paid for online. If you would prefer to make a cash payment, place your money in an envelope marked with "Fete Levy" along with your child's name and class and place the envelope in the P&C payment boxes in the Grade 1 building (L block – upstairs) or Admin building (next to the tennis courts).

Free dress day – Friday, 26 February

Given it’s the school’s 150th Birthday, the student council have come up with a fun theme around history.  Mark the date in your diary and dress up as your favourite decade from the last 150 years!!  So many fun choices, we can’t wait to see some great outfits.  Children are asked to bring a gold coin donation on the day.

Pre-loved items

Pre-loved stalls are coming back to the Fete. It's a great way to clear out, recycle, reduce landfill and grab a bargain too! So start clearing out your unwanted items. We welcome donations of good quality and condition:

  • Clothing (Men's/Women's/Kid's)
  • Shoes / hats / accessories
  • Handbags / Bags
  • Toys / Board games
  • Books / DVDs
  • Sporting Equipment
  • Coat hangers / Clothes racks.

Please NO furniture, kitchenware, bric-a-brac, or linen please, due to space limitations.

Donation bins + collections

The donation bins will be located near the tuckshop (right hand side). These will be available to receive donations Mondays to Fridays. For bigger items, some upcoming weekend collections direct to the container on the oval will be announced on Facebook and parent notices.

Sorting days

Look out in parent rep notices and on Facebook for the sorting days. These are a fun morning of sorting through and categorising the items. The best part is, you can purchase items there and then (with all proceeds being donated to the Fete)!! Dibs on the best stuff!! Now that's a bit special ;-).

Pots + plants

Time to get grubby! If you are a bit of a green thumb, the plant stall will welcome donations of plants. Now is a great time to start growing seedlings or propagating plants from cuttings.  Even if you have a sad plant that's ready to retire, donate to the garden club nice and early. Our resident green thumbs can work their magic and revive the plant ready for a new home.

Any spare pots, planters or cute containers for plants you have lying around can be repurposed for the plant stall. All plant related donations can be dropped to the garden club area. There will be a marked container on the table for donations.
