Deputy Principal’s Report

Here’s hoping that our Yeronga State School families have all enjoyed the school holidays and are all geared up for an eventful and productive Term Four. We look forward to working closely with you all to achieve success for our students throughout the term.

Mrs Tracy Freeman is taking Long Service Leave for the first two and a half weeks of Term 4. Mrs Clare Triggell is looking forward to stepping in to the role of acting Deputy Principal across Prep- Year Two during this time.

HELP YOUR CHILD HANDLE UPS AND DOWNS, INCLUDING ONLINE- TRIPLE P PROGRAM

We all do our best to supervise our children’s online activities, but this Triple P – Positive Parenting Program seminar offers tips on how to develop your child’s ability to cope with problems, now and in the future, in real-life and online. The seminar is fun and friendly and only 60 minutes long, it’s FREE, and it’ll help kids AND parents take the drama out of family life (including screen time), and deal with issues calmly and more confidently. Be a part of a free online program called "Raising Resilient Children" (Focus on Cyberbullying) which is being run by Triple P on Tuesday 27th October 2020, from 6:30pm – 7:30pm. Don’t miss out - book in now at: https://www.triplep-parenting.net.au/qld-uken/cyberbullying/.

10,000 STEPS YSS STAFF CHALLENGE

You may notice many of our Yeronga State School staff ‘out and about’ wearing pedometers, which will measure their daily physical activity. They are taking part in a five week 10,000 Steps Team Tournament, with the aim of walking at least 10,000 steps each day. It’s great to see that so many of our staff are keen to take part and be active role models for our students. No doubt there will be lots of fun (and friendly rivalry) as the staff encourage each other in this team challenge.

‘FENCE’ PEOPLE OF YSS- 150th PROJECT

Students across the school were thrilled to have the opportunity to take part in this exciting project last term. Our sincere thanks to the Tape family and the band of willing parent volunteers who have made this unique project possible, in readiness for the 150th year celebrations in 2021. We cannot wait to see the new additions to the iconic collection of “Fence” people go up around the school perimeter!

ACTIVE SCHOOL TRAVEL DAY

Just a reminder that every Wednesday is Active School Travel Day.  We are starting to notice that actively travelling to school is starting to pick up again – this is wonderful to see.  Winners of the interschool weekly competition get to hold the coveted gold start trophy for two weeks.  Let us see who will be next gold star travelling class!

BALLGAMES

Thank you to Mr Bateman for organising a successful Ballgames Day during the final week of Term 3. The array of class costumes were fabulous and the level of participation and excitement on the day was high.

CLASS ALLOCATIONS 2021

  • Prep interviews for 2021 started last term. If you or someone you know is yet to enrol, please do so ASAP.
  • It would be much appreciated if parents could let the school office know if their child will not be returning to YSS in 2021. Please complete the online form - CLICK HERE or send through this information to admin@yerongass.eq.edu.au.
  • Student class allocations for 2021 will commence shortly. Classes are formed relying upon teachers’ tacit knowledge and understanding of each student’s individual needs. Our teachers know students best in the school context and our process will be driven by the discernment of our experienced teachers and school leaders, with an understanding of students’ individual needs and also the needs across the cohort, to establish classes for 2021. Parents will be told which class their child is in before the commencement of school in Term 1, 2021. If you have any information of an educational nature you would like us to consider when we decide where to place your child for 2021, please write to Mrs Paynter (kpayn3@eq.edu.au) by Friday 9 October.  Any information received after this date may not be able to be considered.

We wish you and your child/ren all the best for the first two weeks of Term 4.

Kate Paynter and Clare Triggell
