Book Week

What a wonderful week we have had. Thank you for the fantastic encouragement from students and parents. Our goal was to encourage students to be readers and writers. Faith did an amazing job of inviting a range of authors to visit. Dr Cameron Stelzer, who wrote the Stroogle and Pie Rat series, shared his writing and illustrating knowledge with students. Dave Lowe, wrote the My hamster is a… and the Dadventure series, and gave the students the insight of the question “what if…” and how it helped him write. Nadia Sunde is an author and performer and writer of screen plays, scripts and plays. She shared with the students the idea that writing does not have to just be in books and demonstrated how an imagination is essential when creating stories. It can be encouraged and kept under control, when you are frightened. Christine Bongers shared her success story as a writer and the value of getting a second opinion. These authors were energetic and gave our students a variety of strategies to become writers themselves. Each author was perfectly pitched at the level for those students, however, I know many students have said they wanted to see the other authors too. Thank you to all parents for paying the contribution fee, this allows us to have these amazing authors visit our school. If you have not paid yet there is still time.

The book character parade was a great success and it was amazing to see so many book characters come to life. Thank you for your support in generating costumes.

As holidays loom we ask that all books be returned to the library. We encourage you to use our wonderful public libraries. if you have lost or damaged a book please speak with Mrs Cowie and either arrange a replacement or pay the replacement fee.
