'Gingerbread fence people' painting: Seeking volunteer helpers

YSS children in years Prep to 4 will soon design and paint their own colourful 'gingerbread fence people' to add to the vibrant and eclectic collection adorning our school fence line and grounds (children in grades 5 and 6 helped to create the original 'fence people'). Six painting days have been scheduled between Wednesday, 12 August, and Thursday, 17 September, with three painting shifts per day.
Parents and carers are warmly invited to help teachers supervise our children when they bring their visions to life with paint. Three volunteers are needed for each time slot. To see the volunteer shifts available, and sign up, head to www.signup.com/go/bubxRfV:
  • Review the options listed and choose the spot(s) you like.
  • When your volunteer time comes, please wear old clothes, BYO apron and check in at the school office when you arrive to volunteer.
We can't wait to see our children's colourful creations!
A big thank you to school parents Jeremy Tape, Emma Campbell, Georgie Rowe and Adam Stafford for helping to prepare the fence people with undercoat during a recent weekend working bee.

Tuckshop seeking volunteers: Can you help?

The P&C's Tuckshop team, Stacey and Yvonne, have warmly welcomed volunteers back into the Tuckshop in term 3. Volunteers play a huge part in the successful running of our Tuckshop and in ensuring the menu items are as affordable as possible for families.
There are a number of 2-hour volunteering spots still available during the term.  Shifts are from 9.00-11.00am each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of school term. No experience is needed – if you can make a sandwich or cut up fruit, this is the volunteer opportunity for you! It's also fun and a great way to meet and get to know fellow school parents.
To volunteer please email Stacey and Yvonne at yerongasstuckshop@gmail.com.

P&C strategic planning

The P&C Executive met with the school leadership team and YOSHC Committee members on Tuesday evening, 21 July, to prepare a draft strategic plan for the next 2 to 3 years. This plan will be heavily informed by the feedback and priorities expressed by those who completed the P&C Planning Survey earlier this year, and families who responded to YOSHC surveys in 2019 and 2020.
Widely promoted to our school community from November, 2019 to February, 2020, the P&C Planning Survey was open to all members of our school community (parents, carers and staff). The P&C warmly thanks the 150 people who took the time to complete the survey, as the information you have provided is highly valued and will help to shape our operations and funding priorities through to 2022-23.
Special thanks to Emma Andrews, school parent and Chief Strategy Officer of Articulous Communications, for volunteering to facilitate the planning session and her expert support for developing the strategic plan. The P&C team looks forward to sharing the draft strategic plan with members at the next P&C General meeting on Tuesday, 18 August.

New Nature Play resources on the way

During the last school holidays, school parent and Gunne Civil Constructions Director, Adam Stafford, kindly laid a concrete slab in preparation for the arrival of new 'loose parts play' items that will provide more creative play opportunities for YSS children in the senior Nature Play area.
The slab will be the foundation for an 'Imaginasium' Nature Play pod, which the P&C is excited to bring to YSS to support and facilitate our children's creative play. Thank you to school parent and immediate past P&C President, Jo Thomson, for leading this initiative. For more information on the Imaginasium head to www.loosepartsplay.com.au.

YOSHC Community Garden

The YOSHC team has created a wonderful extension to the available garden spaces for the children in their care and welcome assistance from school families to care and enjoy the space too. To support the initiative and communicate to children and carers how they can help, the team has developed helpful signs about caring for the garden and composting. Thank you YOSHC!
