Cyber Safety
It has come to our attention that many of our students are using TikTok. This a form of social media is designed for users thirteen years and over.
“TikTok is intended for users age 13 and over. Please do not allow a child under the age of 13 to use the app. If you learn that your child under the age of 13 has registered for a TikTok account, you may alert us at privacy@tiktok.com. We will promptly take appropriate action. For more on appropriate use, please see our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.” (https://support.tiktok.com/en/privacy-safety/for-parents-default)
It considered high risk as users can be contacted directly, there are limited controls of content, which has a strict 12+ rating.
Here is a link to the eSafety website where you can research a variety of apps and see if their use is appropriate for your child. In order to determine the safety features of an app or website the department uses certain guidelines. A key guideline is if users can be contacted through chat. Many children have been known to be groomed through innocuous websites or apps because strangers have free access through chat. We avoid any app or website that has this feature. Unfortunately, many of the popular websites or apps have chat as a feature. It is important that we take necessary steps to protect our child so that we do not inadvertently give strangers access to our children.
