2020 P&C membership

All 2019 P&C memberships lapsed at the AGM. Please take a moment (less than a minute, we promise!) to sign up as a P&C member for 2020 at www.bit.ly/2020ysspandcmembership

Your membership supports the school through the P&C, is a great help for grant applications, and is the best way to ensure you receive our P&C news and communications throughout the year.

Job opportunity: YOSHC Cook

A great opportunity is currently open for a responsible, caring, passionate and suitably qualified Cook to join the YOSHC team. This role is perfect for someone seeking flexible employment during school hours (school holiday shifts also involved). Applications close COB, Friday, 13 March.

For more information see the YOSHC Cook job listing on the P&C website or the attached job ad. Please direct inquiries to charlee@yoshc.com.

New volunteer opportunity: Sushi courier!

Our Tuckshop team is desperately seeking help with picking up the weekly sushi order from Zal's at Moorooka each Thursday and delivering it to the Tuckshop by 10:30am.

We would love to hear from you if you are available from 10:00-10:30am on Thursdays and are keen to help. To volunteer or find out more please email yerongasstuckshop@gmail.com.

Easter Raffle: seeking donations

Our annual Easter raffle is highly anticipated with many happy winners. Throughout term 1 families donate items for Easter hampers and sell raffle tickets to friends, family and colleagues. Each year more than 100 Easter hampers are distributed as prizes to excited kids during the last week of term 1.
We ask all families bring in donations for the Easter raffle - these are collected by class teachers. All items are greatly appreciated, from chocolate of all description, to Easter craft kits, picture books and other non-chocolate items to be included in the Easter hamper prizes. Gift baskets and boxes will also be terrific (perhaps you have some lying around home you would like to get rid of!).

Each child will soon receive 2 books of tickets with extra tickets available from the school office, YOSHC and the Uniform Shop. Traditionally this is a popular fundraiser for YSS.

Tuckshop and Uniform Shop ordering through new Flexischools app

Since the launch of the new Flexischools app the P&C has received several questions regarding ordering, as it is not as intuitive or user friendly as we would hope.

Flexischools has posted a video which we hope will help you navigate the app on your phone or device: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=402586613891166.

For Tuckshop orders scroll down to 'Food'. When you find 'Food' you'll see the First Break link to order. To order for Second Break, when at 'Food' swipe right for the Second Break tile/link to appear.

For Uniform Shop orders we scroll down to 'Shop'.

Orders can also be made via the Flexischools website which looks and works the same as it did last year.

NEW extracurricular activities

In response to requests from our community, the P&C is working with Rise Sports to offer two new extracurricular activities: Active Kids Program from early March, and Netball from term 2.

Active kids program

This fun two-hour program of health, fitness and sport activities for children of all ages (Prep to grade 6) has been designed in response to feedback from our community seeking more active extracurricular activities. It may also offer an alternative for families who currently have children on the wait list for YOSHC after school care (while the P&C is still working to open more places, we have currently exhausted easily 'licence-able' space at school which is making it difficult to open more places in the immediate term).

Classroom pickup can be arranged for Prep and younger children, afternoon tea will be provided, and approximate pricing will be from $27 per session (multiple times/children booked up front for the term) to $35 for casual bookings.

Proposed times are:

  • Monday 3:15-5:15pm
  • Tuesday 3:15-5:15pm
  • Wednesday 3:15-5:15pm
  • Thursday 3:15-5:15pm

To register your expression of interest (EOI) for your child/ren to attend, please complete an online expression of interest here.

Netball - starting term 2

Netball will be offered as an extracurricular activity on Thursdays from term 2. Proposed times are:

  •  Thursday 7:30am-8:30am (Grades 4-6)
  •  Thursday 3:15-4:15pm (Grades 1-3)

To register your expression of interest (EOI) for your child/ren to attend, please visit: https://www.rise.com.au/yeronga-netball-expression-of-interest/.

Boot camp

In addition to maintaining YSS' grounds, our intrepid groundsman Paul Sutherland offers boot camps to our school community 4 mornings and 2 afternoons a week:

     • 5:30am – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
     • 2:00pm – Monday and Thursday
     • Venue: Main oval and the school hall

All are welcome, including parents/carers and students (with their parents), and classes are tailored to fitness levels and for those with injuries or mobility issues. Paul holds certificate 3 & 4 fitness qualifications and is well known for his conditioning of Yeronga children for running events.

For more information call Paul on 0439 029 728.

For details of the current range of extracurricular activities offered at school for the YSS community by the P&C and others visit http://yerongasspandc.org.au/index.php/extracurricular/, and contact providers directly to enrol.

Just One Thing

Our P&C 'Just One Thing' survey is a window into the myriad of ways you can get involved throughout the year. You are cordially invited to nominate your 'one thing' you would like to do support our school community this year: www.bit.ly/YSS2020JustOneThing. This is a super easy way for you to nominate the activity/ies that appeal to you - simply tick the option/s you would like to do, enter your details and submit. A P&C representative will be in touch with you at the appropriate time.

Fee increase for YOSHC

Due to a number cost increases YOSHC is going to have to increase its fees from May 1st.

2020 has seen a number of unforeseen structural and incremental cost rises combine to put the financial viability of YOSHC under strain. The P&C executive and YOSHC management have spent a great deal of time modeling how to best cope with the cost increases while mitigating its effects on our parents and quality of our service.

YOSHC has not had a free increase for three years and it was decided that we could not continue with our present level of service and plan for the future without an increase in fees.

From May 1st morning sessions will increase $1.50, afternoon session will increase $3 and holiday care will increase $5.

These rises wil affect all families differently according to the level of rebate your family receives, so over the coming weeks representative of the YOSHC committee will assist families with any questions they have.
