P&C Report
On behalf of the Yeronga State School Parents and Citizens Association (P&C), we wish all new and returning families a big welcome, a terrific start to the school year, and an awesome 2020!
We also invite you to get involved in our school community in whatever way appeals to you. To help you do this we have created the Yeronga SS P&C website and Facebook page. These help you to stay on top of all P&C and key school activities throughout the year. Please 'like' us on Facebook so we can keep you as up to date as possible with key activities for your kids and you.
A great way to see the myriad of ways you can get involved throughout the year is our 'Just One Thing' survey. This offers an easy way for you to nominate the activity/ies you would like to support - simply tick the option/s that appeal to you, enter your details and submit. You can also read more about 'Just One Thing' below.
Prep Welcome Picnic
The Prep Welcome Picnic is on this Saturday, 1 February, from 9:00-11:00am in the prep playground area. This is a great morning and wonderful way to meet other 2019 prep families in the Yeronga community. There will be plenty of sausages, snow cones and popcorn for all so please pop in with your preppie! Remember to BYO chairs, rugs and drinks.
We'd also love some help with setting up the marquees, sausage sizzling, and making and serving popcorn and snow cones, please. If you have a couple of hours to spare this Saturday, please sign up via our 'Just One Thing' survey (question 5, first option) - you're more than welcome to tick other volunteering opportunities that take your fancy too!
Call for Parent Reps
Teachers are now looking for 2 Parent Reps for each class. Parent Reps welcome new families to the school and pass on weekly emails to the class about what is going on in the school. If you are interested in being a Parent Rep, please make contact with your child’s teacher, or tick 'Pick me!' under the Class Parent Representatives question in our Just One Thing survey, enter your details at the end of the survey and submit.
Welcome to new P&C Operations Manager
The P&C warmly welcomes Sarah Cordingley to the new P&C Operations Manager role, which has been created to ensure the continued sustainability, quality and growth of the P&C and its operations (Tuckshop, Uniform Shop, YOSHC, extracurricular activities, and fundraising and community building activities).
Sarah officially starts on Monday, 3 February, and will be familiar to many within our school community as she is a current parent, and also ably coordinated our extracurricular activities during the second half of 2019 as P&C Administrator.
Prior to taking on the Operations Manager role, Sarah has more than 15 years' experience supporting and managing teams in large banking corporations and small businesses. Sarah was offered the role following a merit-based selection process through which the P&C received several high quality applications. The P&C Exec team looks forward to working with Sarah (and the Presidents are looking forward to getting a few more hours' sleep each week! :-) ).
Introducing our new YSS Tuckshop team for 2020
We are delighted to welcome Stacey Resetti who is stepping up as Tuckshop Convenor (from her previous role assisting immediate past Convenor, Tracy), and Yvonne Starr as Assistant Convenor (who is also our Uniform Shop Convenor).
Tuckshop re-opens for business in on Wednesday, 5 February, 2020 - week 2 of term 1. Prep students will be able to order from week 3, term 1 (and from term 2 will be able to order frozen items).
Stacey and Yvonne would love to hear from you if you have a couple of hours you would like to volunteer for the Tuckshop during term 1 - from 9.00-11.00am on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, or if you are able to bake some ever-popular choc chip muffins.
It is easy to let us know how you'd like to support the Tuckshop via our 2020 Just One Thing survey - volunteering in the Tuckshop is a great way to meet other parents and carers and it's lots of fun!
From Stacey: "Let's make some sandwiches, cook some sausage rolls and choc chip muffins, and have some fun along the way. I'm sure 2020 will be one rippa of a year."
Flexischools is the preferred Tuckshop ordering method, however we will accept bag orders over the counter before 845am - cash only. Sushi can only be ordered on Flexischools and must be ordered by 1pm the day before.
To contact the Tuckshop team please email yerongasstuckshop@gmail.com.
Uniform Shop update
Our Uniform Shop has experienced higher than usual demand for uniforms over the past two weeks which led us to run out of some sizes of formal uniform items. New stock has been ordered but some items may take several weeks to arrive.
If this has caused any issues with uniforms for your child/ren during the first weeks of school please contact the school office and they will work with the Uniform Shop to find a solution for you. Please accept our apologies if you have been affected.
Also, if you have any second hand uniform items you no longer need we will be most thankful if you could please drop them to the Uniform Shop to help families source the items they need in the interim (uniform shop opening times below). Smaller sizes are especially needed. Thank you so much to everyone who has already generously donated second hand items - your support is sincerely appreciated!
Uniform Shop opening times for the rest of this week are:
- Thursday, 30 January: 8.30-9.30am AND 2.30-3.30pm
- Friday, 31 January: 8.30-9.30am.
- Saturday, 1 February: Limited items will be sold at the Prep BBQ, 9.00-11.00am.
After week 1 of the school year, normal Uniform Shop opening hours for the year will be as follows during school terms:
- Monday 8.30am – 9.30am
- Thursday 2.30pm – 3.30pm.
You are also welcome to order via Flexischools for delivery to your child's classroom throughout the year.

P&C AGM: Tuesday, 18 February, 2020
The YSS P&C Executive team invites all parents and members of our school community to the 2020 P&C AGM on Tuesday, 18 February, at 6:00pm, in the school Resource Centre (library).
The P&C Executive team overseas P&C businesses and activities throughout the school year. Executive positions include President, Vice President (usually 2 or 3 people hold this position), Treasurer and Minutes Secretary. There is also potential for a number of non executive positions including correspondence secretary and events coordinators. See the 'P&C Committee roles' page on the P&C website for more information, and contact us at yerongasspandc@gmail.com if you would like more information around roles and responsibilities.
At the 2020 AGM we particularly need to appoint a new P&C Treasurer. Please let us know if you are interested in this, or any other committee role - we'd love to hear from you. In accordance with the P&Cs QLD Constitution, all nominations for executive positions should be received in writing prior to the AGM, via the P&C Executive Officer Nomination Form - please email your completed form to yerongasspandc@gmail.com.
The 2020 AGM will be followed by our first general meeting of the year.
P&C meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month (except December and January) at 7:00pm in the school Resource Centre (library).
2020 P&C Membership
All 2019 memberships will lapse at the AGM. We've made it easy for you to join the P&C or renew your membership via our online 2020 Membership form (ideally before 18 February).
It only takes a minute (or less) to complete - just completing the form to become a member helps and there is no obligation to attend meetings (although we'd love to see you if you're able). Membership numbers help us with grant applications and allows us to keep you updated with copies of monthly minutes.
What's your 'Just One Thing' for the school this year?
The P&C is committed to ensuring every family has the opportunity to get involved and experience our active and friendly community, which is one of the things that makes Yeronga State School such a great place. Our school is as strong as everyone’s contribution.
We invite every Yeronga SS family to nominate ‘Just One Thing’ during the school year to assist the P&C to make a big contribution to our kids and school, via our Just One Thing survey. There are many different ways you can help to make our school great, big and small. It only takes a couple of minutes to click on your 'One Thing' add your contact details and press 'Done' - easy!
Seeking school banking volunteers
The P&C sincerely thanks the three amazing parents who have coordinated our school banking program over the past seven years - Kristen, Kirsten and Mandy. Together these ladies have made countless deposits into Dollarmites accounts on behalf of YSS children and they have now stepped down from their school banking roles.
For the school banking program to continue at YSS we need three new volunteers to visit the school each week to collate the school banking and arrange the deposits into the children's bank accounts.
To volunteer for the school banking program please tick 'Pick me!' under School Banking (question 4) via our Just One Thing survey. Training will be provided by CBA and Kristen and Kirsten are more than happy to answer questions too.
P&C 2020-2023 Planning Survey closes 16 Feb: Have your say today!
Your views are important! All members of our school community are encouraged to have their say through the P&C 2020-2023 Planning Survey before the survey closes on Sunday, 16 February.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey to help us meet your needs in 2020 and beyond. The information you share will help to shape the P&C's services, initiatives, activities, communications and priorities for the next 3 to 4 years.
ALL members of our school community are invited to participate (you don't need to be a member of the P&C to do the survey).
The generosity of our school community enables the P&C to provide significant financial support for infrastructure and resources to assist our children and school that wouldn’t be available through any other means. Your input through the survey will ensure the P&C continues to meet the needs of our school community well into the future.
Grill'd support for YSS to 31 January
Our school has been selected to participate in Local Matters at Grill’d Fairfield Gardens this January!
This is the Grill’d community donation program where Grill’d restaurants donate $500 back into the community every month. The donation is split between 3 local community groups $300 / $100 / $100. All funds raised for YSS through this initiative will help families who need support to cover back to school expenses.
HOW YOU CAN HELP: We'd love your support to receive the highest $300 donation! Simply head to Grill’d Fairfield Gardens by 31 January for a burger and pop your Local Matters token in the Yeronga State School jar. The group with the most tokens at the end of the month receives the largest donation. It’s a simple (and delicious) way to show your support!
