Bridge Builders
Congratulations to our year 6 Bridge Builders who have completed a year of peer mediation, helping the students in the junior school resolve conflict at break time. Certificates honouring their service across the year have also been handed out at assembly this week. A special mention to Elyanna and Milly who achieved Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels within the program with 36 and 37 sessions completed respectively.
I have enjoyed once again facilitating the Bridge Builders program, and seeing the program become further embedded into the school with the way our kids relate to each other and resolve conflict. In reviewing the program with our year 6 leaders, they have told me some of the things that have been good:
- Helping kids find good solutions
- Helping the juniors and learning new skills
- Seeing how happy kids are once they’ve made up with their friends
- Feeling a big sense of accomplishment when I help to solve a conflict
- Preps trusting us more and arguing less
- Preps not relying on teachers as much and are becoming better at solving problems
A new group of year 5 leaders have now been trained to continue the program after the school holidays, and into 2020.
Back to School Assistance
The St Vincent de Paul Society is once again offering assistance to eligible parents of school students to help pay for basic back-to-school items needed in January 2020. Eligible families are those with a parent with a CRN and is in receipt of Family Tax Benefit Part A.
The application and supporting paperwork must be received at Head Office from the local Vinnies Volunteers by 27 September 2019, so it is important to apply immediately. Please phone the Vinnies Helpline today on 1800VINNIES = 1800 846 643 or on 3010 1096 for a home visit from local Vinnies volunteers who will help you complete the application form.
