Deputy Principal's Report
We have enjoyed engaging closely with our current and future Yeronga State School families over the previous fortnight through the Senior Athletics Carnival, Junior Cross Country Carnival, Triple P Positive Parenting Information session and 2020 Prep Information sessions.
Our thanks to Mr Bateman for his organisation of the Senior Athletics Carnival and the Junior Cross Country. The students undoubtedly enjoyed themselves and demonstrated great spirit while endeavouring to “do their best” while participating and encouraging others to “do their best” at the same time. A big shout out also to the parents who took part in (and won) the Student/ Parent/ Teacher running relay which took place at the end of the Senior Athletics Carnival!

Yesterday the Junior School children all participated in the Junior School Cross Country. What a lovely morning it was – the sun was shining and the children were all excited to be running for their house. It was lovely to see so many parents and caregivers attend to cheer on their little people. It was also wonderful to see all children practising their skill of persistence and trying their best. Well done to all who participated and please look below to see the names of the children who crossed the line in 1st, 2nd and 3rd position.

Triple P “Power of Positive Parenting” Information Session and Online Program
We certainly had an impressive turn out of parents eager to hear the information shared by Karyn Healy from the University of Queensland when we recently hosted a Triple P (“Power of Positive Parenting”) information session. It was a lively gathering, with much involvement and open dialogue between parents and our presenter, who had so much wisdom to share. We certainly appreciate Karyn’s generosity in giving her time to us, as we partner between home and school in the journey of raising and educating the students of Yeronga State School. For those parents who were unable to make it to the session, or those who would like further information, Karyn Healy has forwarded a link to a Triple P Positive Parenting program, which is both free and accessible online. See below:
Uniform Reminder
A reminder to parents to ensure that all students are wearing the correct shoes to school. The expectation is for all students to wear closed black shoes, such as sports shoes or leather school shoes, with the formal dress uniform. Black or white joggers are the expected colour of joggers for the sports uniform. Laces must match the shoe colour. Please see the examples of expected shoes to be worn to school below.

Bridge Builders Information Session
The Bridge Builders program is followed at Yeronga State School with an aim to teach children strategies to address conflict effectively, so they can move through life confidently. Conflict is an unavoidable fact of life and usually occurs because of our different needs, beliefs or expectations. Resolving conflict well enables us to move more confidently through our lives and create positive and healthy environments around us. On 16 May at 6.30pm parents are invited to attend a parent education workshop on Bridge Builders. We encourage you all to participate, so you can help your children to use the strategies to resolve sibling and friendship conflict as well.
We look forward to welcoming Joceyln Chirnside will present this workshop. An RSVP link will be sent out via the Schoolzine App over the coming week. The venue is to be advised, as it is dependent on numbers attending.
