Dear Families,

Thankyou for an energised and supportive semester first half of 2025.

The quality of our school is dependent upon the quality of our relationships. Our partnership with you to nourish the most optimal learning and teaching environment for your children is one of our highest priorities. For your respect and appreciation of our staff and their role in this important work, for your collaboration at school events and partnership in delivering the best possible schooling for each child is what makes our school, Yeronga State School, the school of choice in our local community. I am immensely proud of our staff and the consistently improving year on year outcomes we are achieving. Thankyou!

I shared our finalised 2025-2028 School Strategic Plan Belong Engage Achieve with PandC members at Tuesday’s Meeting. Once the document has endorsement from PandC President Alex White and School Supervisor Rob Van den Heuvel, the plan will be ready for publishing. Our current PandC executive and members are moving forward with a vision for the school. In alignment with our Strategic Plan, focussing efforts of volunteers through providing opportunities for parent and community belonging and engagement. It is exciting and energising to be a part of!

Teaching and Learning

The administration team will email Semester 1 reports to parents on Wednesday afternoon, 25th June. Should you have any questions regarding your child’s report, please direct these to your child’s teacher.

Our 2025 NAPLAN Reading Preliminary Data is encouraging, demonstrating school improvement subsequent to an intensive schoolwide focus on the teaching of reading over the past few years.

The table is a snapshot of the percentage of our students receiving reading outcomes in the top two achievement bands in the national testing. The tests take place annually in March for all Year 3 and Year 5 students.

As always is the case, we welcome and farewell highly valued staff throughout the year as personal and professional opportunities and circumstances change. This week we farewell Jenny Mitchell, beloved teacher aide. Jenny has been the ‘safe harbour’ for students and the confidante of staff over decades at our school. We thank Jenny for her dedicated service to Yeronga State School and the Queensland Department of Education and look forward to celebrating her years of service at special events organised in her honour next week. Sadly, we farewell Chelsea Lindsey this semester as she embarks on an exciting family adventure overseas. We know Chelsea has become a highly valued teacher and parent in our community. We will miss her dedication and passion but wish her and the family all the best and look forward to welcoming her back next year. As time goes on in any school, there are those staff who will always remain connected, and we gratefully retain as part of the YSS family and staff though in a different capacity. Two such staff who again have served our community for so many years are Christine Pollock and Rachel Wise. Both teachers have stepped back next semester but will continue to be involved in different capacity over the coming year. As new staff are onboarded to backfill roles, please welcome them warmly.

I trust you have some wonderful family times planned over the winter holiday break. At the very least, please enjoy the slower mornings without the rush of uniforms and school lunches to worry about.

We look forward to welcoming you all back for the start of Term 3 on Monday the 14th of July.

Kindest regards,

Eunice Webb
