Winter Big Play Concert

Last Thursday at our Winter Big Play Concert we had nine string and band ensembles showcase their musical skills. The concert included performances from the school’s junior and senior string orchestras and concert bands as well as performances from some Yeronga State High School ensembles. The YSHS Jazz Band started the night with some high energy jazz favorites and the High School strings players also performed as a string quartet, string ensemble and in a combined piece with the primary Chamber Strings students. The YSS Senior String Orchestra was also excited to present the premiere performance of a set of pieces composed by a member of the Yeronga community, composer Chris Perren.

Thanks to the parents of the performers for keeping your child organised with their music and instrument, waking them up early on for before-school rehearsals, establishing home practise routines and encouraging your child on their musical journey.  Your efforts are the secret to the school's successful instrumental music program and you deserve a gold star and a round of applause!

Strings and Band photos

All strings and band students will need to bring their instrument to school this Wednesday June 25 for String Orchestra and Concert Band photos. The photos will occur during the school day and announcements will be made so students know when it is their ensemble’s time for photos.

Junior Strings and Band Workshops

This week, the year 4 strings and band students have been working hard at the Southside Region Junior strings and band workshops. The band students joined with two other schools for a giant beginner band workshop day at Yeronga State High School and the strings students combined with 10 other local schools to form a massed string orchestra and choir at Coorparoo State School.
