P&C News

Week 9, let’s get over the line!

Term 2 is almost over! Get ready for the winter school holidays with the last P&C school newsletter for the term!

Volunteering Opportunities

As always, the events that the P&C organise need your great help! The following P&C events still need volunteers!

Tuckshop Assistance

Every school week!

Sign up on the Flexischools app

The YSS Tuckshop is always in need of volunteers! With the help we’ve already received, the tuckshop has been able to bring some exciting new items to the menu! Be sure to sign up on the Flexischools app to help out, and with the new promotion of Tuckshop credit when you help out, it’s a win for everyone!

YSS P&C Monthly Meeting – Remote Attendance

Recently the P&C have made updates to our monthly meetings and have found that we will be able to provide a remote attendance option for the folks that are unable to attend the monthly meetings in person!

The monthly meeting that occurred on the 17th of June hosted a successful Microsoft Teams meeting that was able to be recorded and transcribed, hopefully we’ll have more people tuning in next time! With this successful first trial we will be looking to make this feature permanent, so please do bear with us if some technical issues occur in the future.

Donut Day Wrap-up

Tuckshop donut day was a great day and a big thank you to the tuckshop team,  all the volunteers on the day, the parents who supported this event and the happy children on the day.   We sold 576 donuts with 4 different varieties of donut and we hope to see you all same time next year.

YSS Bike Bus Update

The Bike Bus program has been in the works for the past 6 months with Community Plus and Active Travel Annerley securing a Queensland Government Bike Riding Encouragement Program Community Grant to get it up and rolling. The Bike Bus launched here at Yeronga State School with two routes. The kids and parents have been enjoying their first rides together. Riders get a high vis vest and breakfast snacks shared together at school, provided care of the grant. There has been music and lots of smiles.

The Bike Bus program couldn't run without the support of the parent / guardian volunteers helping to lead the kids safely to school. If you see the Bike Bus out one school morning, be sure to slow down and give them a wave - or even better come ride with us on Wednesday mornings!

Proudly supported by the Queensland Government Bike Riding Encouragement Program Community Grants

 Legends!

✨Thank You to Our Amazing Committee & Volunteers✨

This was the first event this Sub Committee has delivered together and what an experience it was!

We want you to know that being on the organising committee was so much fun. We shared lots of laughs, worked together in small, manageable ways, and genuinely loved creating this night for the school community.

And if we’re honest… when the event ended, we all went home not just exhausted but hoping so much that YOU enjoyed the night as much as we enjoyed putting it on. Because we care. A lot. We want these nights to be the ones that bring people together, create memories, and make our school feel even more connected.

So thank you for turning up and embracing the night so fully, it means the world to us.

A huge thank you to this fabulous team:

Terri Barry, Kathy Pini, Lisa Silvester, Michelle Bell, Rachael Holloway, Ellie Hardwick-Greives, Lauren McHutchinson, and Ali Martin.

And to our wonderful extended volunteer crew:

  • Nick Martin & Luke Hardwick-Greives, who ran the bar all night like champions
  • Emily Archibald & Paula Mewing, who kindly helped deliver additional alcohol
  • And everyone who helped with setup, pack-down, raffle, scoring, decorations, lighting, and more - we truly could not have done it without you!

What We Learned - And We Want Your Feedback!

As a team, we learned a lot and we’re already planning improvements for next year. Here’s what we’ll look to add:

✅ Pre-orders of bottles of wine

✅ Food trucks on site

✅ More time for pre-drinks, photo wall, and mingling

✅ More chill time at tables before the dance floor

✅ Dont forget to give answers to the quiz

We’d love to hear your thoughts too! Please take 2 minutes to tell us what you loved and what we can improve by emailing us back.

The Fete Is Coming — Get Involved in the Fun!

If you loved this event and if you'd love to experience the fun and connection of being part of an organising team, why not sign up to help with the 2026 YSS Fete?

This was such a fun event to organise because the committee worked together in small, manageable ways, and the fete will run the same way. You’ll meet new people, have a laugh, and be part of creating something special for our school community.

We will be sending out a call for fete helpers soon — please look out for it and consider getting involved. We’d love to welcome more of you to this fabulous team of parents!

 ❤️ Thank You Again ❤️

You’ve shown once again what a fantastic, generous, and fun community we have at YSS.

We can’t wait to see you at the next event and we’d love to work with you on the next one too.

 Warmly,

The YSS Trivia Night Committee

on behalf of the YSS P&C
