Year 4 Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre Excursion

On the 15th and 20th March our Year 4 students will visit the Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre to learn more about Australia’s history.  First Contact is a day program focusing on the initial contacts between Aboriginal and European people in the Moreton Bay area.  Students are immersed in a moment in time in 1823, when circumstances brought the two different cultures together for the first time.  Students are encouraged to become 'Champions for the Bay' by developing deeper understanding of local Indigenous Culture and reflecting on historical events and how they shaped the area.

Student Council Workshop

Last week, the Student Council engaged in a workshop to set goals for school improvement this year. They were joined by Marcela and Fran from Value Learning to explore the big question "What school improvements are needed that we can positively influence?"

The Student Council brainstormed many ways to improve our school community, and collaboratively decided on increasing dance and creative opportunities within our school.  The Student Council will now work together to plan their initiative, and are excited to get things up and running for term 2.

Problem Solving Wheel

Students across the school have been working on their problem solving skills in the playground.   This problem solving wheel has been helpful for students to generate strategies to use on the spot when things aren’t going to planned.  It’s becoming a valuable learning tool at YSS, and you might like to use it at home too.
